They’re one of nature’s finest foods: fresh, cheap and packed with healthy nutrients.
They’re delicious and versatile – suitable for morning, noon or night. And they’re also a favourite among our Engage Super League heroes.

Why should you eat eggs?

Whether you’re simply trying to improve your diet or you’re pumping some serious iron at the gym, eggs are packed with nutritional value.

As part of a balanced diet, they’re a perfect protein source, with a single egg containing more than 11 per cent of your daily protein needs.

And that means they’re also great for hardcore gym-goers – especially if you eat just the whites during your bid to bulk up.

They’re not too heavy on the calories either. An average egg contains just 68 calories and carries only 1.5 grams of saturated fat.

What other benefits do eggs have?

Lots, actually. Here are a few:

  • A high carotenoid content means they’re especially good for the eyes.
  • They’re also one of the few foods that contain naturally occurring vitamin D – a great tool for raising how much calcium your body absorbs. This means that people who regularly eat eggs tend to have strong and healthy bones.
  • Eggs also carry a great combination of essential amino acids, as well as plenty of iron and zinc.

What’s the best way to prepare my eggs?

There’s no right answer to this, but having eggs that have been fried in lard every morning is certainly not the way to go.

Traditional methods of cooking eggs are often the healthiest. How about boiled eggs for breakfast, or to add some bulk to your lunchtime salad?

Scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast is a great way to start the weekend, while poached eggs or omelettes are also fantastic, guilt free ways to get the best out of nature’s kitchen.

In the end, it all comes down to personal preference. But one thing is for sure: eggs are a cheap, versatile and healthy option for almost everybody.
